- W3099680187 abstract "Low Radar Cross Section (RCS) and long range target detection requires larger antenna power aperture, which can be achieved by phased array antennas with large number of elements. Phased array radar antenna complexity increases linearly with number of elements. Subarray level multibeam architecture minimizes the complexity and improves the target detection and estimation performance. Multiple beams are formed by applying digital beamforming weights on the subarray data. Subarray configuration plays a major role on the multibeam antenna pattern parameters such as beamwidth, peak and mean sidelobe level. In this paper a novel framework is developed to design subarray configuration for multibeam radars using clustering algorithms. Clustering algorithms are developed based on distance and the antenna element weighting. Various experiments are conducted with large hexagonal planar array and results are evaluated with several performance metrics to demonstrate the significance of proposed methods." @default.
