- W3105764468 abstract "One of the most well-known environmental effectors of epigenetic change is stress, particularly during early development. Deviations from optimal developmental trajectories brought about by stress have long-term behavioral consequences, and epigenetic adaptations are a promising biological mechanism through which this occurs. Given that individuals exposed to early adversity are more susceptible to the development of mental health disorders, epigenetic alterations are also likely mechanistic candidates for adversity-induced psychopathology. Fortunately for intervention efforts, the epigenome appears to be equally responsive to therapeutic measures and thus may one day provide an effective avenue of treatment for psychiatric disorder." @default.
