- W3106278118 abstract "Harvest of the internal thoracic artery (ITA) is an essential component of coronary artery bypass grafting due to the long-term patency and mortality benefits of the ITA conduit. To ensure excellent graft function and long-term patency, the ITA must be harvested in a careful and meticulous fashion. This requires excellent surgical exposure. There are several retractors utilized worldwide for harvesting of the ITA. The most commonly used retractors are the Bugge retractor, Couetil retractor (and other “rake” retractors), Pittman retractor, and Rultract retractor. Each retractor has advantages and disadvantages with some retractors providing greater benefit in certain clinical contexts. This chapter will discuss the aforementioned retractors and summarize their advantages and disadvantages." @default.
