- W3106339938 abstract "Breast cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have similar risk factors. Active treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy) can increase women’s risks of CVD. Reducing modifiable risks may be beneficial. We aimed to describe the demographic characteristcs of women enrolled in a digital health RCT and evaluate the proportion of women meeting CVD risk factor reduction guidelines 12-months post-treatment. Women (>18-years) with previous early-stage breast cancer were recruited from a large multicultural breast cancer institute 12-months post-treatment to participate in a digital health RCT. Non-modifiable (age, ethnicity), modifiable (smoking status, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, physical activity (PA) metabolic equivalents (METS), vegetable, fruit, and red meat intake) and diagnosed (high blood pressure or cholesterol, type II diabetes (T2DM), CVD) CVD risk factors were collected. Categorical data were reported using frequencies and percentages and continuous data using means and standard deviations (SD). Women’s (N=150) mean age was 55-years (SD=11; range 29-91), 240 (SD=154) days post-treatment, 44% were Caucasian; 36% Asian. Few were current (8%) or ex-smokers (28%). Most (74%) had overweight (39%; 25≤BMI<30) or obesity (35%; BMI≥30) and waist circumference >80cm (83%). Few (43%) exercised enough (<600 METS/week), ate ≥5 vegetable servings (10%) or ≥2 fruit servings (47%) per day, and 24% ate >3 red meat servings per week. Some women were diagnosed with high cholesterol (20%), blood pressure (29%). Few had CVD (4%), depression (8%) or T2DM (9%). Women’s main CVD risk factors were overweight/obesity, suboptimal dietary and PA behaviours. Lifestyle-focused support programs after breast cancer treatment are needed." @default.
