- W3106730577 abstract "The silkworm, Bombyx mori has been domesticated solely to manufacture silk since ∼7500 years, and in recent years, it is considered as a central model system for Lepidopteron. In view of its both economic and scientific significance, it has attracted a large section of students, researchers, and scientists across the globe to understand its genome organization and explore appropriate methods for the development of silkworm strains/breeds for commercial exploitation. Toward this end, tremendous progress has been achieved, including the genome basis of the demographic history of the silkworm, uncovering genome sequence, construction of genome map, development, and application of various bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomic data, and the advent of functional genomics. All these advances are accelerated with the implementation of genome sequencing projects at different time periods, which are classified as Phase I, II, and III. In this chapter, we present all the magnificent progress and new discoveries of the past 20 years, along with their limitations for a better understanding of the silkworm genome biology and applications." @default.
