- W3107034356 abstract "The survey ‘enquete sur les pratiques culturelles’ is a set of six waves carried out within a timespan of fifty years starting from the early 70s each aiming at measuring cultural participation in France. The most recent wave – the data of which were collected in 2018 – gathers a sample of more than 9200 individuals aged 15 and over in mainland France. The study presented in this booklet focuses on the sixth and last wave hereby highlighting the recent changes in cultural participation. It also gives a wider picture by putting into perspective the most recent figures with those of the previous wave issued in 2008, as well as a further look to the past. It provides a unique overview of cultural participation in the last 50 years, showing how cultural behaviours have evolved overtime. Participation rates in several cultural and leisure activities are given in the shape of time series including a generational analysis in order to show long-term trends while taking into account generational effects; the results are also broken down by sociodemographic characteristics in order to illustrate the contrasts in those changes. Over the last fifty years, culture has come to play an ever increasingly prevalent role in the daily lives of French people, particularly when it comes to listening to music as well as to watching television or videos. Furthermore, there has been an obvious increase in the use of digital devices for cultural purposes over the last decade. Over a third of the population listens to online music, 44% play videogames and three quarters of young people (aged 15-24) watch videos online. More and more people do visit cultural facilities especially those aged over 40. A generational analysis shows the specificity of both the younger generations on the one hand and that of the baby-boomers on the other hand. The first ones have been massively using digital devices – and this behaviour now outweighs their consumption of traditional media – while the latter have always kept high levels of involvement in cultural activities such as reading and going to museums, cinemas or attending live shows at all ages. As the baby-boomers are ageing, one can therefore wonder whether the audience for this or that cultural domain will remain as large in the future." @default.
