- W31076119 abstract "The Electro-Oculogram (EOG) represents the indirectly measured resting potential of the retina and is considered as a mass response of the entire retina, mainly the pigment epithelium, the neuroepithelium and the choriocapillaris of the chorioid. The application of the EOG as a clinical test (Francois et al., 1956; Arden et al., 1962; Arden& Kelsey, 1962) is restricted by different factors: the amplitude of the EOG potential is not only dependent on the corneo-retinal potential, but also on the extent of eye movements, the position of electrodes, the indirect recording and the retinal illumination. Finkelstein & Gouras (1969), Kris (1958) and Kolder (1959) first described the oscillations of the resting potential. The EOG shows considerable variability. In particular, there is a large interindividual variability, while day and daytime variations are of less importance. (Kelsey, 1967; van Lith & Balik 1970 and 1971; Mueller & Haase, 1970; Gliem, 1971; Hochgesand & Schicketanz, 1973). Repeatedly, workers have tried to describe the puzzling oscillations by mathematical or empirical models (Homer & Kolder, 1966; Kolder & Hochgesand, 1973)." @default.
