- W3107922395 abstract "Mathematics appeared in antiquity as a powerful tool to express the computability of reality. As an independent field of knowledge, it was founded in the West by Pythagoras. Plato, following Pythagoras, claimed the reality of mathematics as the true reality of the intelligible world as opposed to the false reality of the perceived world. This point of view dominated mathematics for centuries, and most mathematicians still claim that they are followers of Plato and Pythagoras. An alternative approach is to consider mathematics as a powerful operational tool to describe the basic reality of physics and the other natural sciences. The potential part of this reality can be rigorously expressed via the application of mathematical laws. In this view, mathematics can be defined as a noumenal reflection of potentiality, in its standard acceptation, which becomes directly applicable to phenomenal reality. Computation becomes the tool of describing phenomenal reality as a noumenal organization of potentiality." @default.
