Juarez, PhD and Kupiri Ackerman-Barger, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN Achieving health equity is the basis for eliminating health disparities—the differences in health status and outcomes due to characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and geographic location. The Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) Welcome to the Supplemental Journal for the National Academic Units for Primary Care Training and Enhancement (AU-PCTE), funded through grants from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce, Division of Medicine and Dentistry. This supplemental journal was developed to disseminate our shared efforts from funded projects to address health disparities and health equity through the transformation of medical education and primary care. The articles presented in this journal supplement are the products of a collaborative effort between HRSA and six national projects to improve clinical teaching and research in primary care training through systems-level research, the distribution of best practices and resources, and community of practice activities. Toward that purpose, the table of contents provides an overview of shared agendas, activities and results, organized around six funded areas of the AU-PCTE grant program. The reader will find articles on the Integration of Oral Health into Primary Care from Harvard University; Training for Rural Health Care from the University of Washington; Training for the Social Determinants of Health from: Northwestern University; the Integration of Behavioral Health into Primary Care from the University of Pennsylvania; Training to address the needs of Vulnerable Populations from Meharry Medical College; and Healthcare Workforce Diversity from the University of California, Davis. As academicians and stakeholders, we hope that you find these articles and reports from the field (the lived experience) useful in sparking new ideas, concepts, and strategies for transforming primary care training and clinical practice.
