- W3108861567 abstract "Women‟s otherness is the oppression, socio-economic exploitation, marginalization and objectification of women in the patriarchal society. Muhammad Hanif is a Pakistani fiction writer whose novel Our Lady of Alice Bhatti‟ (2011) presents a composite scenario of women‟s otherness in the character of Alice Bhatti, the protagonist of the novel in milieu of Pakistani society. The present paper aims to deconstruct feminist perspective of women otherness in the novel. It has analyzed the situations and reasons of Alice Bhatti‟s Otherness in the novel. The study uses Simon de Beauvoir‟s (1952) feministic views as a theoretical framework. The relevant works on feministic analysis of other fictions are used as background knowledge. The research results reveals that the various situations for Alice‟s otherness are sexual harassment, physical violence, discrimination, forced marriage, socio-economic exploitation, marginalization, negligence, no involvement in decision. The reasons of Alice‟s otherness are weak biological construction, function of reproduction or immanence, women‟s extra dependence on men, poor economic and physical conditions, male-dominance, burden of babies-raising, societal underestimation, psychological inferiority and the patriarchal oppression. The study suggests that women‟s otherness can be overcome with education, control on immanence and the change in behavior of men in the patriarchal society." @default.
