The bride deck experiences loads which include themass of the vehicles and the dynamic loads that are introduced from movement of thevehicles. The dynamic forces might occur from “Bouncing” or from striking a joint orpotholes on bridge deck. Because of this every day dynamic loads the deck may experiencesome cracking because of excessive stress accumulation. As the surface of span degradesover a time, the lane surface irregularity profile also very accordingly. The differing insurface irregularity will give rise to increased dynamic loads on the bridge deck throughdynamic interaction between surface irregularity and vehicles. The situation may furtherworsen when overweight trucks are running on the rough bridge surface. The increase indynamic force leads to increased stress on bridge deck. It is also noticed that on many of thebridges in Goa there are speed restriction imposed without considering the bridge deckdynamics which get modified according to road roughness condition. The road roughness isanother factor which affects the dynamic actions of the span. So, in order to predict the bridgedeck performance to roughness modified dynamic loads, i.e. displacement and stress, detaileddynamic analysis has to be worked out. In my study an analytical approach will be carried outconsidering dynamic effects due to road roughness. A detailed FEM –analysis of typicalgirder of bridge will be carried out considering road roughness. The results will help indecision making on speed limits on bridges and health monitoring of the bridges and decksurfaces." @default.
