- W3112740692 abstract "Membrane technology plays an important role in the area of process intensification. The main reason is that it has the potential to replace conventional energy-intensive techniques, to accomplish selective and efficient transports of specific components, and to improve the performance of reactive processes. The modular nature of membrane units allows them to be easily combined with other processes. Such combination often leads to overall improvement of process performances and efficiencies as demonstrated by successful implementations, e.g. membrane bioreactor with significant reductions in cost, energy, and environmental. To highlight further the applications of membrane technology in process intensification, this chapter addresses three emerging cases. They are membrane electrocoagulation flocculation for dye removal, membrane diffuser in photobioreactor, and forward osmosis/electrolysis. The three cases demonstrate the flexibility of membrane process to be combined with other process resulting to improvement of overall process performance." @default.
