- W3112913246 abstract "Abstract Environmental contamination is a serious concern throughout the world. Owing to uncontrolled and untenable approaches to industrial activities and excessive use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, almost all types of ecosystems have been contaminated with potentially toxic substances. The mining process is one of the major sources of environmental contamination. For the reclamation of these contaminated sites, several technologies have been investigated. Phytoremediation has been found as one of the most viable and efficient methods to remove the contaminants in a cost-effective manner. Although phytoremediation has been well popularized for the reclamation of heavy metals (HMs), it is also effective in remediating the sites having salts, acids, pesticides, oil and grease, hydrocarbons, etc. On the basis of working mechanisms, phytoremediation has many aspects like phytoextraction, phytostabilization, phytovolatilization, phytostimulation, and rhizofiltration. Phytoremediation has several other advantages like it helps climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration, soil fortification through mineralization, production of biodiesel through cultivating biodiesel crops on the contaminated sites, and many more services. Several natives, as well as non-native plant species, have been identified for the reclamation of mining spoiled and oil drilling sites." @default.
