I argue that scholarship on security, preemption, and terror provides a framework for understanding how futurity is formulated in postcolonial novels that concern terror in the aftermath of 9/11, as well as how terror and counter-terror security measures alike depend on the temporal politics of rupture and disjunction. Using Karan Mahajan's 2016 novel The Association of Small Bombs as a case study, I demonstrate how the postcolonial novel might expose, reconfigure, or challenge the temporal logics of security and preemption that have underpinned the global war on terror and situated 9/11 as an exceptional, singular event." @default.
