- W3118141011 abstract "Problem setting. Urbanization is one of the most important global trends of the 21st century. The New Urban Agenda highlights the need to implement appropriate public policies that include innovative tools. One of them is the revitalization of degraded areas. Its implementation requires an appropriate scientific justification. This issue deserves special attention due to the high level of urbanization and the beginning of urban revitalization in Ukraine.Recent research and publications analysis. The methodological foundations of urban management are considered in the works of Ukrainian scientists: M. Averkina, V. Babaiev, O. Bobrovska, O. Boiko-Boichuk, V. Vakulenko, I.Dehtiarova, O. Karyi, E. Kiushnychenko, V. Mamonova, V Nakonechnyi, S. Sakhanenko and others. At the same time, the problem of the development of degraded urban areas by revitalization has recently started to be the subject of scientific work in Ukraine, mainly in the field of architecture. The state science of public administration hasn`t yet provided an answer to define the essential features and components of the city as an object of revitalization. This issue hasn`t been the subject of special research in Ukraine. The paper objective – the presenting a model of the city as an object of revitalization based on interdisciplinary and systemic approaches. The paper main body. In the justification of urban revitalization two basic models of the city should be distinguished:1) the city as a social and territorial system;2) the city as an ecosystem.Recognition of the city as a socio-territorial system is based on the territorial division of the state. Cities are areas with clearly defined borders, inhabited by people with internal social and cultural ties. They are influenced by public authorities, in particular local self-governments. The social and territorial system is characterized by the fact that a certain human community develops and controls a certain urban area. Therefore, the aim of urban revitalization is to create good living conditions. The city can be considered an ecosystem based on analogies between natural phenomena and the functioning of human communities. This rationale comes from natural sciences and opens a new perspective on the structure, functioning and rebirth of the city. The urban ecosystem ensures the continuity of natural processes and satisfaction of human needs. There are two main approaches to understanding a city as an ecosystem:– the city in the biological sense as a set of ecosystems located in an urban territory (river valley ecosystem, city park, etc.);– the city as a complex system as a whole. The holistic approach tracks the scale and nature of environmental, social and economic impacts in the urban environment. It increases the chances of successful public administration of the urban ecosystem. Conclusions of the research. The city as a revitalization object is characterized by a disturbance of the relations between its elements in the local area, a significant deterioration of living conditions compared to other areas of the city, degradation of local centers of its economic and social activity, etc.Creating the city model as a revitalization object is important for the urban policy implementation. The components of this model are:– a degraded city area, a revitalization zone with local potential for territorial development;– urban development factors related to city management and the living standards of its inhabitants;– connections between the part of the city requiring revitalization and the remaining parts of the city, elements of the external environment.Urban revitalization should be based on interdisciplinary approach that provides synergy between different sciences (economics, sociology, ecology, political science, law, public administration, etc.). The systemic approach allows the city to be seen as an open socio-territorial system with identification key elements of the city as a whole, tracing system-forming connections in the city revitalization process." @default.
