- W3118741342 abstract "The Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) has much potential to revolutionize power generation and propulsion, given its pressure-gain nature, its relatively simple mechanisms and manufacturing, and flexible operating conditions. Many of the RDE gains are still to be seen, as it remains an active research technology across the nation. The feasibility of solid particle seeding into the conventional combustion process has been investigated in small part, with mixed results. However, for the RDE, any means of advancement in performance are welcomed for implementation and scrutiny by the pressure-gain community. The introduction of not only solid particles, but sustainable, organic, solid particles into a detonation-mode combustion phenomenon is the subject of this research. The organic solid particles confectioners (powdered) sugar and peanut flour will be inserted into a gaseous Hydrogen/Air mixture fed RDE by an in-line particle seeder. By back-end imaging, the particles will be realized for their effect on the detonation by the detonation wave speed, and their burning process will be analyzed in side-end imaging from the RDE exhaust plume." @default.
