Humans need the natural environment to survive, as well as the natural environment requires humans to maintain their habitat. But in fact, humans actually take advantage of the natural environment and over-exploit it with greed, causing environmental damage. Humans tend to think of themselves as anthropocentric, which then backfires on themselves, because nature is corrupted and humans become miserable. In a Sundanese short story entitled “Kawung Ratu” by Wahyu Wibasana, it is described how the human relationship with nature is so close and friendly. Nature and the environment are represented by kawung / aren / enau trees. There is a symbiotic relationship between mutualism that occurs in the main character (human) and the kawung tree (plant) which can then be interpreted as one of the ways the Sundanese are so close to nature. In the short story, the presence of nature and the environment is not to be overexploited but to be used as partners and friends in life. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method, with a focus on ecocritical ethical studies. The results of his research clearly illustrate how the attitude of the main character Aki Sukarma towards the kawung tree which is named “Kawung Ratu” (nature), such as how responsibility, affection, care and caution are so as not to disturb their natural life. Through the short story “Kawung Ratu”, the Sundanese people can be said to be very close to nature and treat nature as well as they treat themselves. Abstrak Manusia dan lingkungan alam seharusnya memiliki hubungan simbiosis mutualisme. Manusia membutuhkan lingkungan alam untuk bertahan hidup. Begitu juga lingkungan alam membutuhkan manusia untuk memelihara habitat hidupnya. Namun, pada kenyataanya manusia justru memanfaatkan lingkungan alam dan mengekspolitasinya secara berlebihan sehingga menimbulkan kerusakan lingkungan. Manusia cenderung menganggap dirinya antroposentris yang kemudian menjadi bumerang bagi dirinya sendiri, karena alam rusak hidup manusia menjadi sengsara. Dalam cerpen berbahasa Sunda yang berjudul “Kawung Ratu” karya Wahyu Wibasana, digambarkan bagaimana hubungan manusia dengan alamnya yang begitu dekat dan bersahabat. Alam dan lingkungan diwakili oleh pohon kawung/aren/enau. Ada hubungan simbiosis mutualisme terjadi dalam tokoh utama (manusia) dengan pohon kawung (tumbuhan) yang kemudian dapat dimaknai sebagai salah satu cara orang Sunda bersahabat dengan alam. Dalam cerpen tersebut, kehadiran alam dan lingkungan bukan untuk diekspolitasi secara berlebihan tetapi dijadikan sebagai mitra dan sahabat dalam menempuh hidup. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan fokus kajian etis ekokritik. Hasil penelitiannya tergambar jelas bagaimana sikap dari tokoh utama Aki Sukarma terhadap pohon kawung yang diberi nama “Kawung Ratu”, seperti bagaimana tanggung jawab, kasih sayang, kepedulian dan kehati-hatiaannya agar tidak mengganggu kehidupan alamnya.
