- W3119043043 abstract "With the ever-increasing world population, crop improvement is one of the most important goals of the research community. Crop productivity is known to be adversely affected by various kinds of pathogens. Different types of pathogen-specific pesticides are commonly used to protect the crops against infection or disease but they cause extensive damage to our environment. As an alternative approach, resistant-plant varieties can be developed through alteration in genetic composition through various tools. Conventional breeding is an important approach for crop improvement but is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. Modern day gene-editing tools such as TALENs and CRISPR/Cas9 are currently being used for either directly silencing or fine-tuning the expression levels of the gene of interest. Several crop plants have been genetically modified using these techniques for improved resistance phenotype against pathogens. These advances enable us to move toward a chemical-free approach for disease resistance which can also help in saving our rapidly deteriorating environmental conditions." @default.
