- W3119366095 abstract "Mars has a low-density atmosphere, which makes aerial-based exploration especially challenging. However, the flight of fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) at lower altitudes with higher values of atmospheric density would be practical on Mars. In this paper, the atmospheric analysis is done to model Mars characteristics at lower altitudes between 0 and 3 km. Functions are made that model the atmospheric properties of Mars, such as temperature, pressure, density, and viscosity. These modeled atmospheric properties are then used to investigate the wing and thrust loading of a fixed-wing UAV during the cruise and loitering flights on Mars. The results from this wing and thrust loading investigation are that, as wing loading and altitude increase, thrust loading also increases. The results show that on Mars, loitering flight requires more thrust loading and this increases drastically as the radius of curvature decreases. This study gives outlines for future steps of designing fixed-wing UAVs for Mars exploration." @default.
