• W3120098783 abstract "In this work high-fidelity large-eddy simulations (LES) are performed to study screech in twin supersonic jets from two closely-placed rectangular nozzles with an aspect ratio of 2:1. A Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings solver is used to compute the far-field acoustics produced by the jets. The resulting near- and far-field flow data are compared with the experiments conducted at the University of Cincinnati for two over-expanded conditions and the design condition. LES predict qualitatively similar flow fields to experimental measurements. In the far-field noise spectra, LES are able to capture the fundamental screech tone and its harmonics at a few observer locations. Moreover, the overall sound pressure levels are within 1-2dB difference from the microphone measurements for all three jet conditions simulated. Using the LES data, two-point spatial cross-correlations are computed to determine coupling modes between the two jets, suggesting anti-symmetric coupling for the two over-expanded cases. Spectral proper orthogonal decomposition analysis further confirms these coupling modes between the two jets at screech frequencies." @default.
