- W3121214592 abstract "Drawing on a dataset of job openings posted at an online job board, the authors find that employers are less likely to offer performance-based pay when a job entails multitasking, quality control, or team work than when a worker’s performance is easily measurable. This finding is consistent with the authors’ hypothesis that employers have difficulty measuring a worker’s overall performance with these dimensions and thus offer weaker performance incentives to ensure that workers allocate their efforts to every task they were hired to perform. The observed pattern is pronounced for jobs for which employers are unable to measure individual performance and for those that include bonuses and commissions, but weaker for non-sales jobs or those that entail a modest amount of multitasking." @default.
