- W3121390044 abstract "Knowledge of parasite transmission is necessary to predict, and ultimately control, the spread of disease. In this chapter, we review the recently expanding literature on parasite transmission within honey bee (Apis mellifera) apiaries, between apiaries, and between honey bees and non-Apis pollinators. Efforts by beekeepers to reduce drifting between hives, robbing of hives, and maintain sanitary equipment can all reduce parasite transmission within and between apiaries. In addition, new evidence suggests that increasing floral abundance in the landscape can reduce the likelihood of transmission between honey bees and non-Apis bees. Because beekeepers often do not consider parasite transmission when setting up or managing their apiaries, there is potential to meaningfully improve pollinator health through simple and effective management practices that are likely to reduce disease." @default.
