- W3122756250 abstract "Endovenous thermal ablation (EVTA) of the great saphenous vein or small saphenous vein has replaced surgical ligation and stripping as the procedure of choice for the treatment of incompetent saphenous vein. Indications for vein ablation include presence of reflux in a truncal vein of a duration greater than 500 ms with associated patient symptoms, edema, skin changes, or venous ulceration. Measurement of the vein diameter should be carried out during the course of preoperative ultrasound. During EVTA, there can be a significant amount of heat dispersed around the vein intended for treatment. The majority of heat generated remains within the venous lumen. Nerve injury is a common cause for litigation after endovenous laser ablation. Reasons of nerve injury during EVTA include needle stick injury during vein cannulation, needle stick injury during administration of tumescent anesthesia, and heat transfer during EVLA." @default.
