- W3123509534 abstract "Any attempt to predict what comparative and international labor and employment law scholarship will be like in the next quarter century should examine projections of world work force growth and reductions of natural resources, and the resulting pressures of population over-abundance and resource scarcity. To be weighed also is the extent to which authoritarianism or rational humanism will be the dominant political-ideological cultures. These considerations indicate that a primary issue for scholars will be whether law can or will intervene to reduce suffering and ensure equitable distribution of available resources until the time when population growth is reversed and humankind learns to preserve or regenerate essential resources. Thus, because there will be changes in the role of employment as an instrument of wealth distribution, scholars will examine alternative strategies for providing income or income substitutes. They will also pay increased attention to what harmonization of law should or should not take place within regional and larger markets. Another concern will be how and whether law can effectively regulate multinational employment standards and rule making processes so as to stabilize relations among trading partners. Labor and employment law scholars will additionally have to give greater attention to strategies of taxation, financial incentives, and insurance techniques needed to provide new means of fostering welfare safety nets and provide and encourage worker education and training. They may also find themselves paying greater attention to ways in which cultural values may be modified so that workers and managers can more readily accept an environment in which quality of life is not equated with financial growth and societal well-being is not equated with economic expansion." @default.
