- W3126987700 abstract "1561 Objectives: To study the role of 18F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) scan in demonstrating the disease burden in patients with neurotuberculosis and compare these findings with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).Subjects and Methods: 32 patients with definite TBM were prospectively analyzed. The severity of TBM was graded into stage I to III. The patients were subjected to whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging and MRI brain. Scans were repeated at 3 months and 9 months interval. Results: Total of 32 patients with TBM were recruited, whose median age was 25 (13-55) years, and the median duration of illness was 2.7 (0.5-7.8) months. Varied pattern of tubercular lesions were noted in the brain parenchyma such as (Tuberculoma in 12 patients, Pachymeningitis in 4, tubercular abscess in 3, basal exudates in 8, hydrocephalus in 7, vascular infarcts in 3, cross cerebellar diaschisis in 2 patients were observed) and in addition multiple bodily lesions were picked up(Lung lesions-7, Mediastinal lymph node in 5, cervical lymph node in 4, abdominal tuberculosis in 3, Potts spine in 7) . Out of 32 patients, 5 died, 10 had complete metabolic response, 13 had partial metabolic response and 4 had progressive disease. Progressive disease patients had drug resistant tuberculosis. Most important result were found in the complete metabolic response patients, where in MRI still showed residual lesions. Overall,18F-FDG PET-CT had a good correlation with MRI. Conclusions: 18F-FDG PET/CT has an excellent one stop shop modality for overall disease evaluation in tuberculosis. As Tuberculosis is a slow growing disease, timely assessment of the disease status after treatment is upmost important and 18F-FDG PET-CT can be a strong hold in evaluating therapy response and establish therapeutic end point." @default.
