Compared to traditional materials, nanomaterials possess higher adsorption capacities for arsenic species. However, several technological barriers, such as nanoparticle recovery and oxyanion interference, are impeding the application of nanomaterials to full-scale drinking water treatment. In this chapter, Cu-based nanocomposite membranes are depicted as an example to elaborate the effectiveness and mechanisms of nanomaterials for arsenic removal. It is concluded that nanomaterials cannot be used standalone, but need to be integrated into appropriate drinking water treatment processes for cost-effective mitigation of arsenic contamination." @default.
