- W3127958756 abstract "Transformer is one of the most important equipments in an electric power system. Because of thermal aging, performances of paper and oil insulations may be degraded. This paper reports experimental results on the thermal aging on kraft paper insulation in various liquid insulating materials such as mineral oil, natural ester from palm oil and gas to liquid oil under accelerated aging. Samples were conditioned to the same initial conditions through the heating at a temperature of 100 °C for 24 hours. Liquid insulation samples with volume of 200 ml and 10 gram insulating kraft paper were put in bottles with rubber seal. The paper-oil ratio reflects the typical ratio of oil and kraft paper inside a real transformer. The accelerated thermal aging was conducted in an oven with temperatures of 120°C or 150°C for up to 1008 hours. Sample were taken every two weeks (336 hours) and put into various test and measurements. For eludicating the effects of thermal aging on the kraft paper characteristics, SEM (scanning electron microscope), EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy), DTA (differential thermal analysis) and FTIR (Fourier transform infra red) analysis were used. Degree of polymerization and tensile strength at certain aging level were also investigated. The experimental results showed that there are reduction in degree of polymerization and tensile strength of kraft paper under accelerated thermal aging. Morphological degradation in the form of microglobules in the kraft paper also can be seen from SEM (scanning electron microscope). The percentage of oxygen element reduced significantly during aging. The analysis showed that there were increase of crystallinity percentage during accelerated thermal aging compared to those of amorphous in kraft paper. FTIR analysis showed the evidence of paper oxidation to release C-O and C=O which increased by temperature and aging time." @default.
