- W3129124680 abstract "Microbial infections are still causing mortality of both adults and children due to the emergence of extensive usage of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. Nanoparticles (NPs) are extensively used in the agricultural and pharmaceutical sectors due to their ample physicochemical properties. NPs offer lucrative properties mainly due to their high surface area and nanosizing. For many years, different metals such as silver, copper, magnesium, etc. are known for their antimicrobial properties which led to the formulation of metal and metal oxide NPs with antimicrobial potentials. These metals-based NPs offer broad-spectrum activity and restrain the growth of myriad pathogens at a low dosage and fewer side effects. The occurrence of microbial resistance against metal and metal oxide NPs is almost impossible due to their diverse mechanism of actions than antibiotics. In this chapter, different inorganic metal and metal oxide NPs with their synthesis methods, antimicrobial properties, characterization techniques, and applications are discussed." @default.
