- W3129356906 abstract "One of the fundamental ways of designing transport infrastructure is to use arterial roads for substantial traffic streams intersected with orthogonal branches. However, even with state-of-the-art urban design methodology used in developed countries, transportation infrastructure in developing countries often does not keep up with the rapid development of travel demand. Unlike developed countries, traffic in the developing countries is heterogeneous, in which different types of vehicles can travel on all lanes. This paper addresses how to regulate the heterogeneous traffic flow by a light control mechanism without changing the urban road network. A novel proposed approach uses reinforcement learning for arterial road control. Experimental results show that the proposed control outperforms existing controls in all three common network structures of urban design despite only using realtime data available in real-world systems." @default.
