- W3130189542 abstract "The development of atomic power engineering for peace and war purposes caused rapid development of methods for biological protection from radiation by means of radioprotectors. The results were soon used for the protection of normal tissues in radiotherapy of tumors. Discovery of the alternative approaches, such as enhancement of radioinjury to the tumors by radiosensitizers, stimulated the development of a new trend in experimental oncoradiology: radiation reaction control in tumors and intact tissue. Use of hypoxic gaseous mixtures proved to be the most effective for the protection of normal tissue and of hyperthermia for amplification of radiation injury to tumors. Of special interest is the combined use of irradiation and hyperthermia, thermoradiotherapy, when not only radio-, but thermomodifying agents are used. Use of radiomodifying agents is one of the real potentialities in the progress of radiation oncology. 66 refs., 3 tabs." @default.
