- W3133904345 abstract "The ability to read is very important for self-education and lifelong learning. Reading is not as simple as what people think. It is not simply about visualizing the written form, identifying words, and pronouncing them correctly but more importantly understanding the meaning of these words. Teaching reading in Indonesia is still using teachers centred which means that students are asked to read and answer the following questions. This method is bored and old fashioned; teachers need to find a new method to make learning activities more interactive and beneficial. One of the methods is Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC). It helps students more active in class. This research took 56 students as a sample out of 85 students of SMK Madyatama Palembang. The quasi-experimental design is used to observe at two-time points, one before the treatment and one after the treatment. The result shows that the CIRC method can develop students' ability to read by helping them learn to read comprehension that can be applied widely. Students are involved in teamwork. They can work together with their team. Students who have more abilities can help others and can provide corrections to their teammates. Students can also learn to make predictions about problems to be solved and summarize the elements of the story. This can improve students' reading comprehension.
