AbstractIn the 19th century, the link among politics, culture and History became stronger and stronger, which resulted the flourish of the History painting. The Hispania Roman conquest scenes were frequently represented, being chosen any of them depending of the political and ideological needs of each time. The political exigencies, in fact, were more important than artistic ones, and even than the supposed obsession with historic-exactitude attributed to History painters. As a consequence, in Spanish imaginary some mitologems were created, the same that have been used by the different governments until now, and that keep operative in the contemporary collective memory.KEY WORDS: History painting, ideology, XIXth century, Numancia, Sagunto, Viriato." @default.
