- W3134472102 abstract "Biocompatible implant materials replace the bone defects that are often caused by trauma, tumor, fractures, developmental deformity, etc. Currently bioceramic (hydroxyapatite, HAP) coated implants provide a high Ca and P atmosphere in the region of the bone and the implant and thereby promote bone growth into the prosthesis. Though they had many successful stories, there is still an improvization required in these kinds of materials with respect to faster bone healing. Since bone comprises of a CaP-based inorganic phase with traces of mineral ions, substitution of minerals such as Zn2+, Mg2+, Sr2+, Ag+, La3+, Ce3+, and Eu3+ into HAP can significantly influence cell–materials interactions. There are a variety of coating materials available for improving the bioactivity and biocompatibility of implant materials. This chapter deeply discusses about the minerals substituted HAP coatings on implant materials with regards to their improved biological activity. The significant biological performances of the bioceramic materials are discussed here." @default.
