- W3134911689 abstract "Electrochemistry is the key enabling technology for driving the many systems that are shaping the world today and, even more importantly, our future. The impact of electrochemical science goes well beyond the concepts of direct electrification of our energy system, enabled by electric energy-storage and energy-release systems such as batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells. Electrochemistry also allows to feed renewably generated power into industrial key sectors that cannot directly be electrified by means of the power-to-fuels and power-to-chemicals concept. Electrochemical conversion by electrolysis and electrosynthesis thus stands in the center of sustainable value chains for a de-fossilization of chemical industry. Electrochemical processes moreover stand behind the development of the main components of many sensor devices and other analytical techniques. Electrochemical processes furthermore find application in a wide range of fields including catalytic systems, organic synthesis, metal coatings, water treatment, and biomedicine, among others. The importance of these applications is also reflected in the vigorous activity from fundamental electrochemistry to electrochemical process engineering. We are, therefore, pleased to introduce Electrochemical Science Advances (ELSA), an international, interdisciplinary, and fully open-access journal. The journal is a forum for the entire electrochemistry community and is intended as a journal of choice for researchers coming from the varied scientific branches that incorporate electrochemical techniques. The journal covers the entire breadth of electrochemical sciences, including bioelectrochemistry, electrosynthesis, electroanalytical science, energy conversion/storage, materials science/coatings, engineering, and all areas in between as well as adjacent and emerging areas. As an open-access journal, ELSA supports the principles of open research. As part of this, research articles include a data availability statement that helps interested readers know whether to check a repository, see the supporting information, or reach out to the research labs when looking for the primary scientific data. The editor team is committed to a fair and efficient editorial process. We would like to thank all reviewers who have already taken the time to evaluate manuscripts for ELSA, even during the difficult months of sudden lockdowns and online teaching during 2020 and beyond. We are especially pleased to announce that, as of late 2020, ELSA is an official journal of Chemistry Europe (www.chemistry-europe.org), an association of 16 chemical societies from 15 European countries, representing over 75,000 chemists. As part of the Chemistry Europe family, ELSA is a sister journal of Angewandte Chemie, Chemistry-A European Journal, ChemElectroChem, ChemPhysChem, and Batteries & Supercaps. The editorial team at ELSA is supported by an outstanding Editorial Advisory Board, which includes prominent researchers from around the world representing a wide range of expertise on electrochemistry techniques and applications. Table 1 gives a complete list of ELSA's board members. We thank them for all their efforts in starting this new journal, and we look forward to working with each member going forward. We thank the authors who have already supported ELSA by contributing their articles during the launch phase. We look forward to feedback and suggestions, and to serving our readers and community. And we look forward to your next submission." @default.
