- W3136205440 abstract "Compared with their carbon-analogues, polymers with sulfur–nitrogen bonds have been underestimated for considerable time. Nevertheless, they have been receiving ever-growing attention since two decades by virtue of their intrinsic characteristics, which, in turn, are offering a myriad of superior properties (e.g. degradation, flame retardancy, film-forming ability, good solubility in polar solvents, and high refractivity with small chromatic dispersions amongst other). The distinctive chemical properties of the sulfur-nitrogen bond (e.g. its polar character and the multiple valence states of sulfur) pave the way to those remarkable characteristics, and thus open excellent perspectives for the development of innovative (bio)materials. In this regard, within the following chapter, the most common chemical approaches towards the efficient synthesis of these unique polymers possessing diverse sulfur-nitrogen bonds are explored and described accordingly; and furthermore the ubiquitous applications in multiple fields, ranging from biomedicine to energy storage are highlighted, with the aim of providing an informative perspective on challenges facing the synthesis of sulfur-nitrogen polymers with desirable properties." @default.
