• W3136641804 abstract "In this chapter, a new oscillatory-based computational model of the attention control system is explained. This model shows how neuronal oscillation can lead to the selective processing of targets and ignore distractors. Based on the results of neurocognitive studies, the proposed model consists of top-down attention control, bottom-up attention control, short-term memory, prediction, and corticothalamus pathway blocks. Except for the corticothalamus pathway that has been modeled by an equation with two attractors, correspond to two defined reactions in the experiments, other blocks have been described by Van der Pol oscillators that can communicate with each other through synchronization procedure. The model is under the effect of visual or auditory target/nontarget stimuli. Results of simulations indicate that the pattern of models’ components’ output separately and in connection with each other is consistent with the experiments’ results and with some neurocognitive observations. The proposed model can justify some of the neurocognitive observations and provide some predictions about possible reasons that may lead to the appearance of attention deficit disorder (ADD) symptoms. According to these predictions, it seems that the weight associated with the decision based on the prediction, the startup speed of processing resources in different modalities, the value of coupling weight between units that determines the speed of synchronization and information transference, and also the level of self-awareness from the momentary behavior changes (e.g., the effect of the delay value in the reference signal of the controller) are samples of parameters that can lead to symptoms of ADD." @default.
