- W3136809544 abstract "Tooth restoration after endodontic therapy can be challenging due to the substantial loss of tooth structure and the unique structure of the roots of human teeth, which make adhesion of resin composite materials to dentine a more complex clinical procedure than adhesion to enamel. Higher humidity and lower tubular density, especially close to the root apex, further complicate the adhesion. Often, in vital teeth, the dentine close to the pulp chamber must be protected by replacement or capping materials, which directly affects the quality and longevity of the adhesive interface of restorations. Moreover, endodontically treated teeth are frequently restored with prefabricated or custom-made intraradicular posts that are luted using resin-based cements. Unfortunately, due to the unfavourable C-factor and possible contaminants present in root dentine, the quality of the adhesive interfaces in the dentine–cement–post complex is not ideal. Thus, regardless of the material used for pulp capping or restoration of endodontically treated teeth, knowledge of the anatomy and structure of the root dentine and mastery of adhesive techniques are fundamental. The objective of this chapter is to provide information on the biological characteristics of root dentine and the parameters that influence the adhesive potential of resin-based materials used for luting purposes or pulp capping." @default.
