- W3142335110 abstract "Birds' ranges are largely limited by environmental conditions. This chapter explores that climate change can determine changes in the spatial distribution of birds. Birds are good models for studying the impact of contemporary climate change on biodiversity. Studies showing latitudinal shifts of birds in wintering grounds are less common. The altitudinal distribution of birds is well documented. An altitudinal rise in the range of birds is almost inevitably accompanied by a narrowing of their range, since the available surface area of a mountain decreases with altitude. Comprehensive syntheses on the relationship between life-history traits in birds and susceptibility to distribution change in the face of climate change have recently been provided. Three families of life-history traits known to be related to their ability to change or not change distribution in the context of climate change: their dispersal capacities; their reproductive capacities; and their degree of specialization." @default.
