- W314509034 abstract "In Arroyo Grande, California, the unlikely marriage of banking art has created a mutually rewarding relationship for both banker artist, provided an important link between bank customers their community. Two years ago, Mid-State Bank president, Carrol Pruett, invited a local artist to submit some proposals for his offices which were about to be remodeled. The artist showed him some sketches based on scenic locations indigenous to the area. Pruett was pleased commissioned him to paint a series of watercolors which currently hang in five of Mid-State's with plans for eight more. Depicting the historical landmarks familiar locales which are part of the area's heritage, bank customers employees alike were drawn to the paintings. They have evoked responses ranging from tears of appreciation to the transfer of a $100,000 account to MidState. That kind of success depends on carefully made decisions. Here, Pruett shares some hard won advice for community bankers looking to rethink their ideas about art. Capture the of the bank Mid-State Bank, with total assets of $740 million, is located in a semi-rural partly agricultural, partly coastal community. Serving this area since 1961, each of its 23 offices is situated in areas as diverse as they are beautiful. Through its support of numerous community based projects, Mid-State Bank has earned a reputation for its dedication to preserving the history, beauty, future prosperity of the area. was with this image in mind that the artist, Roger Robinson, created a series of large, vivid, watercolors depicting scenes of the local landscapes immediately surrounding each office. Customers love to see their own community portrayed in someone else's eyes, said Pruett, and if it's done in an exciting way, then that makes them feel good about what they are seeing. Robinson's realistic style choice of subjects give his work an emotional appeal that Mid-State customers can easily identify with. Whether watercolors or oils; landscapes or abstracts; the theme of the bank should be reflected in the art. Match the clientele Much of the artwork currently seen on the walls of banks is chosen only with the decor in mind. While the colors shapes may blend well with the overall interior design, the art itself is overlooked. On the other hand, cutting edge art does not always work in banks, either. Pruett chose a style of art that was understandable appealing to his clientele. And the art he chose had an important side benefit: the workplace has become a source of special pride for his employees, an atmosphere that enhances their performance. It doesn't always put dollars in the account, but it does make people feel good, Pruett remarked. Find the right artist Mid-State wanted an artist who would work with them, in the cooperative effort to create pieces that would reflect the promotional theme existing reputation of the bank. We had many artists approaching us with proposals to hang their work in our offices, said Pruett. We didn't want a hodge-podge of different artists in each branch. Hiring Roger Robinson solved a lot of problems for us in that respect. Pruett looked for sound professional procedures, a reputation for consistency, a firm idea of what would be expected from the artist vice versa. In Robinson he found those qualities, as well as a style of painting he knew would appeal to a large audience. Robinson works with clean colors to create the look of a freshly washed landscape. His pieces are intentionally absent of humans, reflecting the pure grandeur of nature. It's the attention to detail that creates the realism, offered Pruett. Yet he also incorporates color to express the beauty make his pieces exciting. Presentation promotion are key One of the biggest mistakes a bank can make is allowing someone other than the artist to mat, frame, hang the pieces. …" @default.
