• W3147112047 abstract "This study compared the accuracy of acoustical measurements of VOT (spectrograph^ measurement of FO, Fl, F2, F3 and the amplitude waveform) against physiological measurement of voicing onset (Electroglottography) during production of Cantonese initial stops by adults with normal voice quality (n=l 6). The stimuli were consonant-vowel (CV) words in which the initial consonants /p, p, t, t, k, k/ were followed by the vowel /a/. Five repetitions of target syllables were recorded from each subject. The variance of offset of the acoustical measurement was measured against the physiological measurement. The results showed that the amplitude waveform measurement had the lowest offset variance in determining the voice onset of the Cantonese initial stops. The presence of aspiration affected the accuracy of the spectrograph^ measurement as the aspirated stop obtained higher offset variance than the unaspirated one. Besides, the presence of aspiration significantly affected the accuracy of the spectrographs measurement of Fl, F2 and F3 in the aspirated stops. Gender only affected the accuracy of the F3 measurement of the aspirated stop. In addition, place of articulation had no effect.
