- W3148693704 abstract "The study was conducted to evaluate effect of ratio of face to core particles on mechanical and physical properties of oriented strand board produced from Ethiopian highland bamboo.Three-layered oriented particleboards were manufactured with 4 proportions of face to core particles at 750 kg/m~3 target density.Ten percent urea formaldehyde resin was used as a binder.Strength and dimensional stability performances of all boards were assessed based on ISO standards.The results showed that modulus of rupture(MOR) and modulus of elasticity(MOE) increase by 23%-34%and 9%-20%,respectively,with the increasing of the ratio of face to core layer from 20:60:20 to 25:50:25 and to 30:40:30.A further increase of the ratio beyond 30 at the face could not improve MOR and MOE.Decreasing core layer ratio below 50%resulted in the improvement of internal bond(IB) strength.Higher surface screw withdrawal resistances were in the boards made with the ratio of face to core particles being 25:50:25 and 30:40:30, respectively.On the other hand,edge screw withdrawal resistance showed an increasing trend with the increases of IB strength.Increasing fine particle content from 40%to 50%and to 60%reduced thickness swelling by 11%and 21%,respectively.However,when the content was over 40%,the thickness swelling decreased significantly.According to the results,the bamboo board made with a ratio of face to core particles being 30:40:30 has highly improved properties than the others.Generally,the bamboo culm is suitable for the production of high performance particleboards." @default.
