These are some of he major questions raised by the article in this suppleent to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.1 The urpose of this article, and the recommendations deived from it, is to synthesize the most effective behavoral interventions to prevent HIV infection among dult gay men and men who have sex with men MSM). The report is a critical contribution to the eld, as it covers over 20 years of prevention research round the globe. Its findings promise to inform our uture practice, funding, and research. Yet, as the uthors note and as the reader will realize, the evidence f effective approaches among ethnic minorities, atino gay men in particular, is sparse, at best. One reason for the lack of evidence of intervention ffectiveness among Latino gay men is the selection riteria employed by the article’s research team. The riteria, quite understandably, comprised the use of a omparison group and the focus on an adult populaion, among other factors. As a result, only the study onducted by Carballo-Dieguez and colleagues3 was onsidered for the final analysis. But the most important reason for such a vacuum in he field is the racial system that largely defines the llocation of resources as well as our professional and ersonal lives. Latino researchers are more likely to e interested in working with Latino gay men and to have he skills to work with this population than, say, white ale researchers. However, Latino investigators have had imited access to the main funding agencies—the Naional Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for isease Control and Prevention (CDC).
