- W3149666314 abstract "Despite a resurgence of interest in strategy use in language learning and in cognitive psychology generally, and despite the body of literature on reading comprehension strategies instruction of the past 25 years, second language acquisition research appears to have had little impact on current classroom practice in the teaching of reading in modern foreign languages. Research reviewed indicates that colleagues can be taught to teach reading comprehension strategies but that changes in attitude and practice are typically not sustained. This paper suggests that one of the reasons for the failure to sustain instructional effectiveness over time may lie in the nature of the change process itself. An alternative, phenomenological approach to initiating and maintaining improvements to practice is suggested. As an example of this approach a piece of small-scale, low-disruption research is described, in which the researcher acted as catalyst in a process of methodological change by a modern foreign language teac..." @default.
