• W3150352492 abstract "Functional dependencies constitute the most important class of semantic constraints on data in the context of the relational model of data (cf. [CODD 70]). The purpose of functional dependencies is twofold: In the first place, functional dependencies are meant to specify the set of admissible relations for some relation scheme and, secondly, they may be used for relational database design. With regard to the former one of these purposes, the set of all sets of functional dependencies over some attribute set is, in a natural way, partitioned into equivalence classes, each of which contains all those sets of functional dependencies that specify the same set of admiss ible re la t ions .
