- W3150971922 abstract "The life cycle, population dynamics and production of the population of Ampelisca typica (Bate) from the muddy fine sand community from the Bay of Morlaix in the English Channel have been studied for 10 yr. The species has a bivoltine cycle, with breeding extending from June to October. Recruitment occurred in 8 or 9 successive cohorts in two maximum periods of reproductive activity in June and in August–September. The first generation bred 2 months after their recruitment following a period of fast growth. Growth stopped during autumn and winter and began again in spring. The populations showed seasonal migrations between the intertidal zone where A. typica was abundant in winter, and the sublittoral zone where it was abundant during the breeding period from spring to autumn. The life span was 4–5 months for the first generation, and 15–16 months for the over-wintering individuals. The maximal length observed was 10.5 mm. Production was estimated for two annual cycles. Growth production varied from 73 to 160 mg dry wt · m−2 · yr−1 and elimination production from 85 to 174 mg dry wt · m−2 · yr−1. PB ratios from 4.06 to 4.36 were close to EB ratios which varied from 4.42 to 5.02. Values of growth production and PB ratio are compared with those previously published for bivoltine amphipod populations." @default.
