- W3152413025 abstract "Periodically, researchers have been reminded that test statistics (e.g., t-ratios, F-ratios) serve only to indicate the inferential stability (statistical significance) of observed results; they do not describe the significance of results. Various measures of association have been developed over the year to address the question of the strength of relationship between the independent and dependent variables in comparative experiments. The most recent of such statistics, omega squared (02), popularized by Hays (1963), has been proposed for determining strength of relationship in the context of the t-test or fixed-effects analysis of variance; it has been used extensively since 1963 in published studies (Davidson, 1964; Coats and Smidchens, 1966; Lindsay, Marks, and Gorlow, 1967; Bruning, 1968). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the statistical and practical appropriateness of two measures of association that have been proposed. Within this paper, the statistics discussed will be dealt with in the context of the one-way analysis of variance; generalizations to multi-factor analyses should be obvious." @default.
