• W3154134369 abstract "Abstract The objectives of this research were to study and compare the public participation in solving the flood problem and to propose sustainable solutions to the flood problem in SathingPhra District, Songkhla Province. This study was a mixed methods research. The sample was 379 people living in KhuKut Sub-district, ThaHin Sub-district, Bo Daeng Sub-district, Bo Dan Sub-district and KhlongRi Sub-district in SathingPhra District, Songkhla province. Key informants were 20 knowledgeable persons that have understood the solutions to the flood problem in SathingPhra District, Songkhla Province. Research instruments were a questionnaire on impact of flood problem and public participation of people in solving the flood problem with Cronbach's reliability of .78 as well as a semi-structured interview form. Quantitative data were analyzed using statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test and F-test for hypothesis testing. Qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis that described the process of the phenomenon and the relationship of the phenomenon. The results of this research were as follows: 1) the overall public participation in solving the flood problem according to public opinion In SathingPhra District, Songkhla Province was at a moderate level. When individual aspects were considered, an aspect with the highest mean was participation in decision making, followed by participation in implementation, participation in benefits, and participation in evaluation. All aspects were at the moderate level. In addition, when the public participation in solving the flood problem, classified by personal factors including age, years of community stay, occupation, it was found that the respondents with different age had different opinion towards the public participation in solving the flood problem in SathingPhra District, Songkhla Province with a statistical significance level of .05. 2) The sustainable solutions to the flood problem in SathingPhra District, Songkhla Province consisted of (1) the geographic condition-based solutions such as mangrove planting, weeding removal in rivers and canals, surveillance of risk spots, residential changes, and dredging of old route canals and (2) public behavior-based solutions such as raising the public awareness, preparing for the period before the monsoon, building awareness of problems at the local level, jointly looking after the problem, burden alleviation of government agencies, hybrid planting orientation, headman act as spiritual anchor, news and information follow-up, jointly sharing property and labor, and public health preparedness.
