- W3157190710 abstract "AIMS & OBJECTIVES: - Share the service experience with other institutions as there is little knowledge of COVID-19 in the pediatric population. - Reinforce the importance of negative fluid balance in a patient with COVID-19 even in pediatric oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 6 patients (age ≤18 years) with laboratory confirmed 19 coronavirus infection in cancer patients. All diagnosed with acute leukemia (5 myeloid and 1 lymphoid recurrence) and 5 patients (83,3%) with oncological diagnosis and COVID-19 performed concomitantly. The diagnosis was made by realtime reverse transcription polymerase tests for SARS-CoV-2 in 6 children and serology in only 1 child. All presented hypoxemia with indication for oxygen therapy and 3 (50%) required mechanical ventilation. The association between the reduction in respiratory support and negative water balance was evident in 100% of cases. RESULTS: Patients who were already undergoing chemotherapy, maintained their treatment and those newly diagnosed were included in cancer protocols established worldwide. All patients had elevated CRP, D-Dimer and Ferritin, in addition to chest CT with ground glass;5 collected Il6 and all showed high values. Noted that children who used only oxygen therapy tolerated its supply and suspension after about 1-2 days of negative water balance while patients who used mechanical ventilation tolerated its withdrawal after 3-4 days of negative water balance. CONCLUSIONS: The reported cancer patients represent 20% of confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to our pediatric intensive care unit from March to August. All children showed clinical improvement related to negative water balance." @default.
