- W3157583394 abstract "Angle of repose (AoR) measurement in granular materials requires heap formation, where heap deviation from an ideal cone reduces the measurement accuracy. This paper aims to develop and evaluate a novel AoR measurement method of improved accuracy, suitable for mineral granular materials. The method is based on 3D photogrammetry with area-weighted average slope calculation on a triangular mesh. Testing was performed on CAD models, a calibrated physical cone and real heaps to evaluate the method and perform correlation to other commonly used methods: protractor; cone height-diameter; 2D image analysis; and point cloud cone-fitting. Image-based methods produced the highest repeatability and mutual correlation, with the novel method being the most accurate. Conventional methods were most affected by the observer, showing the lowest repeatability and accuracy. Irregularities during heap formation are the major cause of repeatability problems, where 3D photogrammetry and larger sample size aid in the production of more reliable results." @default.
