The fraction that has the greatest influence on the pyrolysis of vacuum residue (VR) to minimize the production of coke is defined as the pyrolysis sensitive fraction in this research. To determine the sensitive fractions for VR fast pyrolysis, the VR was divided into eight group-fractions, and the structure compositions of these fractions were analyzed firstly. Then, the coke formation behavior of eight group-fractions under different reaction temperatures and heating rates were investigated. The results indicated that the optimal temperature range to minimize the coke yield of the sub-fractions of Aromatic and Resin was 600 °C ~ 700 °C, and increasing the heating rate from 50 to 1000 °C/s could reduce the coke yield significantly. Finally, the sensitive fractions were analyzed at these reaction conditions, and we found that Middle Resin was the sensitive fraction that affects the coke yield of VR fast pyrolysis at 600 °C, whereas Light Resin was the sensitive fraction at 650 and 700 °C." @default.
